Crawlspace Contractor Trade Council
NCBPA, Ultra-Aire and Santa Fe Dehumidifiers partnered in late 2016 to form a Crawlspace Contractor Trade Council comprised of residential single and multi-family crawlspace contractors, builders and home performance contractors across North Carolina. The council focuses on identifying and resolving market issues related to crawlspaces in North Carolina.
Upon forming the Council, Members quickly began to identify and prioritize market issues and work through NCBPA, Ultra-Aire and Santa Fe resources to develop and implement solutions. One example of a market need already identified is to develop a statewide certification program for crawlspace contracting companies that would be recognized by consumers, builders and regulatory authorities. Additional goals of the Trade Council include:
Identifying ways to educate consumers, builders and others about the benefits of semi-conditioned and conditioned crawlspaces.
Breaking down regulatory barriers that inhibit market growth.
Identifying long-term opportunities that offer benefits to crawlspace contractors, their clients and homeowners.
Over the past year, the Trade Council has completed work on:
An assessment of needed building and energy code changes impacted crawlspaces.
- The development of a frequently-asked questions page on www.HomeEnergyNC.org.
In 2018, the Trade Council plans to work on these and other activities:
- The development of a crawlspace professional certification course and educational workshop.
- Establishing discount programs from product and service providers for NCBPA member companies.
- Assessment of wanted building and energy code changes impacting crawlspaces.
Members of the Trade Council participate in monthly in-person regional meetings and conference calls to discuss these issues and others over the next six to twelve months. Joining the council is voluntary and limited space is available. There is no cost to participate.
