Since our founding in 2014, NCBPA has been actively working with your companies to identify needs, establish priorities and develop resources to support our industry’s current and future workforce. In the spring of 2020, NCBPA held its second Workforce Development Summit in Pittsboro in partnership with the North Carolina Community College System (NCCCS), in order to prioritize opportunities for industry companies to work with community college staff and faculty together. Today, we are excited to announce a new opportunity available to our member companies in the Guilford county area! Thanks to participation from NCBPA staff, member and partner professionals in the development of the Clean Energy Plan, the State Energy Office has just initiated the development of an energy efficiency (EE) apprenticeship track within the statewide ApprenticeshipNC program. The EE track would complement existing energy related programs to help create a pipeline of skilled workers to contribute to the growth of the clean energy economy.

The North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality (NCDEQ) has partnered with NC A&T University as well as Guilford Apprenticeship Partners to develop a program to be piloted in Guilford county next year and then replicated statewide.
The initial focus is EE occupations in the construction industry (residential and commercial) such as: weatherization, HVAC, electrician, energy installation services, and energy auditing. NCBPA has been asked by NCDEQ to advise on focus areas related to residential and commercial energy efficient construction.
The State Energy Office of the NCDEQ is currently looking to gain the involvement of public and private companies with locations in the Guildford county area to assist with program development and host apprentices. They are seeking organizations that can participate in the Guilford County 2021 pilot program as well as those interested in our statewide effort that will follow.
If your organization is interested in participating or learning more, please contact Danielle Constantini with NCDEQ at Danielle.costantini@ncdenr.gov or Dr. Greg Monty with NC A&T at ghmonty@ncat.edu. Due to the summer 2021 launch date, they are eager to discuss this opportunity as soon as possible.
