As we approach the upcoming short legislative session (running late May through the end of June), there are many opportunities for members to learn how to become a policy advocate and test their new skills at the legislature in Raleigh. Here’s how you can help:
- Craft an op-ed article for your local newspaper on one of our top policy priorities for 2018: energy code, workforce development, EE First resolution or EE Potential Study. Our staff will work with you to craft, submit and advertise your article to garner media attention and legislator support leading up to the short session.
- Register to participate in member Lobby Days on May 30th (Commercial Buildings) and May 31st (Residential Buildings). Talking points and schedules will be facilitated by our staff to allow members to connect with their legislators and share the importance of energy efficiency and building performance. Lobbying in individual legislative districts is also beneficial to achieving our goals. If you want to lobby at the state or district level, let us know! No prior experience necessary!
- Join our Policy & Legislation Committee to get an early start on Lobby Day! These monthly calls are a great opportunity to learn about key industry policy issues and speak directly with our staff about your questions and suggestions. The next meeting is on May 1st.
- Get to know NCBPA’s policy priorities for our industry by viewing last week’s policy plan webinar presented by Madeleine Guyant. The 45 minute video walks through our policy plans and provides more information on how you can get involved.
We have the plans. You have the voice and experience. Let’s work together to benefit our industry, your company and your career!
